One day the Holy Spirit impressed something on my heart that completely changed the way I think about surrender.
Every second of every day, my heart beats without my instruction. My lungs fill with air without my permission. My body performs countless miracles that I neither control nor fully understand. God designed it that way.
Then a simple question settled into my heart:
If I already trust God with every heartbeat, why do I struggle to trust Him with tomorrow?
That realization transformed the way I view faith.
Surrender isn’t passive.
It’s recognizing that the God who faithfully sustains the life within me is also faithfully directing the life before me.
We often spend so much of our lives trying to control the things we cannot. We plan every detail, replay conversations, worry about tomorrow, and carry burdens we were never meant to bear. Yet every night we fall asleep without wondering whether our hearts will remember to beat or our lungs will remember to breathe.
Without even realizing it, we already trust God with the very thing that keeps us alive.
So why is it so difficult to trust Him with our circumstances?
As I’ve learned to surrender, I’ve begun noticing something beautiful.
God’s hand isn’t only found in the extraordinary.
It’s found in the ordinary.
It’s in the unexpected phone call.
The delayed errand that became perfect timing.
The dream that suddenly makes sense months later.
The person who shows up before you even ask for help.
The quiet answer to a prayer you almost forgot you prayed.
These moments may seem small, but together they tell a much bigger story.
They remind me that God has been working all along.
I’ve realized that faith doesn’t always grow through dramatic miracles. More often, it grows through recognizing God’s quiet faithfulness woven throughout our everyday lives.
Perhaps that’s why Proverbs 3:5–6 has become one of my favorite reminders:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
God never asks us to understand everything.
He simply asks us to trust Him.
Every heartbeat reminds me that He is already doing countless things I cannot see.
If I can trust Him with every breath He gives me, then surely I can trust Him with tomorrow.
One of the greatest gifts God has given me is the ability to look back and remember.
When I reflect on the moments where He has shown up—through unexpected provision, answered prayers, perfect timing, or gentle reminders—my faith grows stronger. Every memory becomes another reminder that God has always been faithful.
In those moments, fear begins to lose its grip. The need to control fades, and my heart fills with peace because I remember who has been carrying me all along.
Perhaps that’s why Scripture so often calls us to remember God’s works. Reflection doesn’t simply help us appreciate the past—it strengthens our confidence for the future.
Before you move on with your day, take a moment to ask yourself:
Where have I seen God’s hand in my life recently?
What burden am I still trying to carry on my own?
What would change if I trusted God with tomorrow the same way I trust Him with my next heartbeat?
Maybe that’s what surrender really is.
Not giving up.
But letting go.
And discovering that God’s hand has been holding you every heartbeat of the way.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May His face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
May His presence fill your heart with peace as you discover His hand in the ordinary moments of your life.
